Lovefern ("the app", "the Service") is provided by David Dempsey ("I", "me", "my"). This policy explains what personal information the app collects, how I use it, and the choices you have. By using Lovefern you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. Words defined in the Terms of Service have the same meaning in this policy.
Unlike a simple offline app, Lovefern is a shared experience for two paired partners, so it does store information in the cloud and shares some of it with the partner you pair with. This policy is written to reflect exactly that.
Information I collect
Account information. When you create an account or sign in (including with Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple), I collect your email address, and where you provide them, your display name and profile photo. This is used to create your account, pair you with your partner, and secure access to the app.
Content you create in the app. Lovefern is built around small shared signals. When you use it, I store the content you create so it can be delivered to your partner and shown back to you both: moods, love notes, doodles and drawings, virtual affection (hugs, kisses and similar), needs you share, important dates, milestones, and details such as love languages and partner preferences that you choose to add. This content is stored in the cloud so it can sync between your two devices and appear on your home-screen widgets.
Pairing information. To link two partners into one shared space, I store the connection between your accounts and the invite code used to create it.
Notification tokens. If you enable notifications, I store a push notification token for your device so the app can tell you when your partner sends something. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
Purchase information. If you buy a subscription, the payment itself is handled by Apple or Google, and I do not receive or store your card details. I do receive confirmation of your purchase and subscription status (through the app stores and, where used, a subscription management provider) so I can unlock premium features for you and your partner.
Diagnostics and analytics. To keep the app working and understand crashes, I use third-party tools that may collect diagnostic and usage information, including log data such as your device's Internet Protocol (IP) address, device model and name, operating system version, the configuration of the app, and the time and date of use. This is used to fix problems and improve the Service.
What your partner can see
Lovefern only works because two people share one space, so it is important to be clear: the content you send or share through the app is visible to the partner you are paired with. That includes your moods, notes, doodles, affection, shared dates, milestones and anything you add to your shared fern. Anything you would not want your partner to see, do not put in the app. Where the app offers a private option for a particular feature, content marked private is not shown to your partner.
What I do not do
These are commitments, not just settings:
- I do not sell your personal information to anyone.
- I do not show you ads, and I do not share your data with advertising networks.
- I do not lock the memories you have already created behind a paywall.
- I do not use the private content you share with your partner (your notes, doodles and moods) for advertising or for training unrelated products.
Service providers
I use trusted third-party services to run the app. These providers process data on my behalf to deliver and improve the Service, and are obliged to protect it and use it only for that purpose. They include:
- Google Firebase (authentication, database, storage, cloud functions and push messaging), which stores your account and shared content and delivers notifications. See the Firebase privacy information and Firebase Analytics policy.
- Google Crashlytics for crash reporting.
- Apple App Store and Google Play for app distribution and payments.
- A subscription management provider, where used, to verify and manage subscriptions.
Consent to share consumption data with Apple
By using the app and making in-app purchases, you consent to my sharing of data regarding your usage and consumption of purchased content with Apple, as part of resolving refund requests. This may include details about how you accessed and interacted with purchased content, and helps Apple make an informed decision on a refund. Any such sharing is done in line with Apple's policies and only as necessary to process your request.
Data retention and account deletion
I keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account from within the app at any time. Deleting your account ends your pairing and removes your personal content from the active Service. Some information may remain in backups for a limited period, and I may retain the minimum necessary to comply with legal obligations. If you cannot access the app, you can request deletion by emailing support@lovefernapp.com.
Security
I value your trust and use commercially reasonable measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest through the providers above. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and I cannot guarantee absolute security.
International transfers
The service providers I use may store and process data on servers located outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Where information is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards as required by UK data protection law.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, you have rights over your personal data, including the right to access it, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, and request a copy in a portable form. You can exercise most of these directly in the app, or by contacting me at support@lovefernapp.com. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Children's privacy
Lovefern is intended for couples and is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided me with personal information, please contact me and I will delete it.

The app and this website may contain links to other sites that I do not operate. I am not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites, and I encourage you to review their policies.
Changes to this policy
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective when posted on this page, and I will update the date at the top. Please review it periodically.
